Tour de Suisse and No Smoking

Harold's re-opened for the Summer Season on Thursday to coincide with the arrival of Tour de Suisse cycle race.

...our new staff member, Hannamari Sarkinnen

The big change in Harold's for this summer is that we have gone Non-Smoking.

Harold's re-opened for the Summer Season on Thursday to coincide with the arrival of Tour de Suisse cycle race. The weather was kind enough to finally clear up after a dismally wet spring. But despite the sunshine the crowds were not forthcoming unlike some other years. But then, of course, a mid-week arrival is not going to bring in as many people as one on the weekend.

Nevertheless, it was a good baptism for our new staff member, Hannamari Sarkinnen, or Hanski for short, a trained nurse from Finland. She spent the afternoon serving people on the terrace coffees and beers. But there wasn't much food ordered. Unlike Saturday, which turned out to be a remarkably busy day, one of the best on record for that weekend...until 9 pm that is, when it went dead. Even the Euro 2008 football competition has not brought people in.

The big change in Harold's for this summer is that we have gone Non-Smoking. This has been on the cards for some time, but we have been hesitant as it is not easy for us to create a non-smoking area. We are an all-or-nothing place. But now with new laws on the horizon and an increasing number of places going non-smoking, not to mention increasing demand and acceptance of smokers for non-smoking public places, we feel the time is ripe for the change. Our clients seem to accept the change without problem.
