Hanski and the take-away

The resort has been inexorably slowing down as
autumn points its nose. Despite the sunshine, the terrace does not attract
customers as much as it did as the cooler temperatures encourage people to seek
the sun rather than the shade. The Italian families have been drifting back to
their homeland and the local Swiss kids are back at
school. This is not to say that the
town is dead..yet. There are still (downhill) bikers in town that we have
managed to capitalize on and Harold's has done better this week than the same
week last year. But we did not manage to take advantage of the fact that the
Verbier-Grimentz mountain bike race was delayed
24 hours due to the (wrong) forecast that there would be bad weather and low
cloud. These people are spaghetti eaters, and we don't fit into their menu
preference. Instead, we tend to work better with them after the race when they
come back to collect their kit. Even this is uncertain as the check-in is now
down in Sion and many participants were bussed up to Verbier for the
departure.George's lip is much better.
Amazing just how fast the healing process can be and one would be hard pushed to
believe that he had stitches put in only a few days ago. He has in fact finished
working in Harold's but will be hanging around for most of the autumn. And
Richie finishes today as well. Harold's enters low season timetable mode next
week.Hanski got annoyed with some
clients mid-week, or rather with the female partner. The lady requested that the
food be a take-away, and, as usual, Hanski asked what sauce she would want. The
woman umm-ed and arr-ed, constantly getting Hanski to repeat the options, before
finally settling on "no sauce". Then, when Hanski gave her the bag of food, the
woman complained that there was no sauce included. The whole process began again
with Hanski finally throwing in a selection of sauces. Some people can really
make life difficult for themselves (and others).
