New staff and more health issues.
As we enter the second half of the season, we now
have a new line-up following the resignations of Izzy and
Sara.
As we enter the second half of the season, we now
have a new line-up following the resignations of Izzy and Sara. As announced in
the previous blog, Diana is back on board following a seven year break. The
second new recruit is Ben who has been showing real enthusiasm. So there is a
new refreshing dynamic in the bar.
That said, the first week of February saw the continuation of our health woes. With George away in the UK healing his shoulder, Ben, having just passed his trial run and signed up, had a glass fall on his foot, giving him a nasty cut and putting him out of action for a couple of days. Then on the Saturday, Jamie fell snowboarding and sprained his ankle. He managed to hang on for shift, but was in no condition to work the Sunday shift. Fortunately, he was scheduled to have the following two days off anyhow, but nevertheless he has been suffering much of the week. As for Sara, she was supposed to work Tuesday but fell ill with tonsillitis forcing Diana to stand in at the last minute. Now that the team is back up to full strength, let's hope that these health issues are behind us. At least we have managed to produce a proper schedule for the first time.
Even the steamer went sick again and had to go back for another repair. How long will it last this time?
As for the business, although there has been a slight pick-up, we are still far from previous years' figures, due mainly to the dramatic drop in people using the Internet service now that everyone has laptops with which they can connect in many places, and the weakness of the pound, dissuading people from spending money.
