Volcano!

Like the rest of Europe and indeed much of the world, life has to a large extent been dictated by a volcano in Iceland with the unpronounceable, if not unreadable, name of Eyjafjallajoekull. People have been coming in using the internet in the vain hope of finding a solution to get back home. We had a small gang of punters on Saturday morning who managed to persuade AlpineExpress that it might be a good idea to hire a coach and bus people back to the UK. For a while, Harold's turned into AE's office as people were signed up. The success was such that the coach was quickly filled (not just with Harold's clients) and AlpineExpress is organizing a second coach. Remains to be seen if the threatened train strike in France is not going to create so much more chaos such that it becomes impossible to cross the Channel.

Even the Elfes camp has been affected. There should have been a switch over on Saturday, but with Geneva airport closed, the arrivals couldn't arrive and the departures are left stranded in Verbier. To complicate matters, all 40 members of the party have to travel together, so they can't split the group between several planes. With the present difficult situation, this becomes an almost impossible task. But for Harold's, this has been good news. With no more ski gear or lift passes, the kids have little to do, and instead have made time go by hanging out watching the football on the big screen. We have been grateful for this little extra revenue stream as the season winds down.
